Read by Max Bollinger in English (unabridged). TheApp comeswith fully featured audio player and audio book contentsuppliedinside the App.Stories in This Audio Trilogy01 About Truth02 About Freedom03 About LoveChekhov dedicated considerable amount of time writing the 3storiesin this trilogy and was very particular about his intentiontorelease them as once piece. This is evident from hiscorrespondencewith his publisher. But his wishes were ignoredduring his lifetimeand the first story had been publishedseparately. The storyreceived colossal amount of attention fromboth professionalcritics and general public and resonated sostrongly that readerswere compelled to write long letters toChekhov (in some cases over20 pages in length) praising him forbeing so truthful, forenlightening and reflecting the reality oftheir lives. Manyprominent critics of the time such as Lyatskyattacked Chekhov forattempting to generalise "life in a bubble"which he claimed wasmore of a pathological exception than a rule.Lyatsky also accusedChekhov of only showing the dreadful sides oflife and neverproviding the reader with an answer of how to improveit.Leo Tolstoy disagreed with Lyatsky after reading the secondstory."Happiness does not exist and should not exist. And if thereispurpose in life, this purpose should not be our personalhappiness,it should be about something more intelligent, somethingmoredivine", from Tolstoy's letter to Gusev (1910).The third story, About Love, concludes the trilogy, butChekhov'sinitial thoughts were to produce another sequel. The forthstorynever materialised however. The relationship described in thethirdstory was based on Chekhov's own relationship with MissAvilova whoupon publication of this story compared Chekhov with"busy bee whoflies about and is happy to collect honey from justabout anythingon its way". Chekhov quickly responded to MissAvilova,"You arebeing unkind towards your busy bee. The bee firstsees brightbeautiful flowers and only then collects honey fromthem".After publication of all stories in this trilogy, evenmostunflattering critics of Chekhov agreed that these 3storiesrepresented a significant milestone in Chehov'spersonaldevelopment as a serious writer. They all noted that thetone ofthese stories was less frivolous in comparison to hisearlier work.Regarding Chekhov's About Love, Mikhailovsky wrotethat Chekhov wastouching upon most significant and importantquestions of humanlife with such skill, depth and emotion that"Chekhov in lifting usto the sky, is showing us a third dimension,so to speak".About Anton ChekhovAnton Pavlovich Chekhov (Антон Павлович Чехов) 1860 – 1904 wasaRussian short story writer, playwright and physician, consideredtobe one of the greatest short story writers in the history ofworldliterature.
